Discover Izzi - Coffee Bakery Pizza

Walking into Izzi - Coffee Bakery Pizza for the first time felt less like discovering a new restaurant and more like stumbling onto a neighborhood secret that locals quietly guard. Tucked away at 771 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170, United States, this spot blends the warmth of a European-style café with the comfort of a classic American diner. I stopped in originally just for coffee, but like many people in the reviews mention, one visit quickly turns into a routine.

The menu does a smart job of keeping things focused while still offering plenty of variety. On my last visit, I watched a steady stream of regulars grab their usual orders-espresso drinks paired with fresh baked pastries in the morning, then slices of pizza heading out the door by lunchtime. There’s something reassuring about a place where the kitchen knows exactly what it wants to do. Their bakery items are made daily, and you can taste that attention to timing and technique. Studies from the American Institute of Baking have shown that shorter shelf times preserve moisture and flavor, and that idea clearly shows up here in the texture of their breads and pastries.

Coffee is taken seriously, but not in a pretentious way. The baristas understand extraction, grind size, and milk temperature, yet they explain things simply if you ask. One afternoon, I chatted with a staff member about their espresso process, and they mentioned dialing in shots every morning based on humidity. That lines up with recommendations from the Specialty Coffee Association, which emphasizes environmental adjustments for consistent flavor. The result is a cup that’s smooth, balanced, and reliable, whether you’re ordering a latte or a straight espresso.

Pizza is where Izzi really bridges cultures. The crust has that subtle chew you get from longer fermentation, a method supported by food science research showing improved digestibility and flavor development over time. Watching the pizzas come out of the oven, you notice the blistered edges and evenly melted cheese-clear signs of proper heat control. The toppings stay classic and restrained, letting the dough and sauce do most of the talking. It’s the kind of pizza that works just as well for a quick lunch as it does for sharing over conversation.

What stands out most is how seamlessly everything fits together. The bakery doesn’t feel separate from the coffee, and the pizza doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Many restaurants struggle when they try to cover multiple concepts, but here the overlap makes sense. Bread becomes pizza dough, espresso pairs naturally with dessert, and the menu flows the way a real day of eating does. Restaurant industry analysts often point out that focused versatility leads to higher customer satisfaction, and this place is a practical example of that idea in action.

The atmosphere adds to the appeal. It’s casual without being noisy, welcoming without trying too hard. Families stop by after school, remote workers linger with laptops, and couples share slices in the evening. The location makes it easy to pop in, but the experience encourages you to stay. Reviews often mention friendly service, and from my experience, that reputation is earned. Orders come out promptly, questions are answered honestly, and there’s a sense that the staff actually enjoys being there.

No restaurant is perfect, and peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. Still, that’s more a sign of popularity than a flaw. With consistent food quality, thoughtful preparation methods, and a menu that respects both tradition and practicality, Izzi continues to build trust with its customers. It’s the kind of place you recommend without hesitation because you know exactly what someone else will experience when they walk through the door.

  • My fiancé and I are big fans of Aslin’s sours, so we made the trip to the tasting room for our anniversary date, and they did not disappoint! We grabbed lunch and beers at Izzi, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Brussels sprouts were my personal favorite, while my fiancé loved the Nashville chicken sandwich. We sampled a few new-to-us sours and loved every sip. We didn’t realize the actual Aslin tasting room opened at 3 PM, so we ended up spending most of the afternoon hanging out at the bar with Betsy. She gave us multiple samples of beers she liked, she thought we’d like and that she thought would pair well with our food. She was so sweet, knowledgeable, and fun—truly a highlight of the day. Even though we’re not local, we already can’t wait to come back!

  • This is the food side of the Aslin brewery. It is a speedster building connected by a shared courtyard. Beer is available on bo to sides. We came for lunch but they are know for their coffee and breakfast. We found the staff incredible engaging and knowledgeable. They were great in offering samples prior to deciding on the beer. The selection is huge and they have some very unique options. Most are available to go. We ordered the Pepperoni and Hot Honey 16 inch. It is awesome. The menu is extensive. You can eat at the bar or at a table. There are pinball machines to the side of the dining area. The parking is free. The outdoor area is so cool and relaxing. Dog and kid friendly. We highly recommend.

  • The door says "coffee, bakery and pizza," but we dropped in anyway in the hopes of finding brunch. Boy, were we happily surprised! We had the fritatta and breakfast sandwich. AMAZING! Plus, they brew their own beer and have football on multiple screens. Yay for Herdon. Don't miss this gem for brunch and game-day fun.

  • We had a great first experience tonight! We sat at the bar mainly because this place was hopping and just a few tables open. The bar guy was so pleasant and kind and it was consistent to everybody that approached him throughout our dining experience. One of the waitresses was also very kind and smiling and presto to assist. The place is clean and the kitchen looked clean as well. It is a very open space with couches, tables and chairs and games to the right. Very cool floor plan. A bit noisy as is expected when almost full. The beer was great and they have also light refreshments. We ordered meatballs as an appetizer and they were different. No sauce on the meatballs and fried. They were different yet tasty. The pizzas are from another world; they are huge and taste delish. All sorts of toppings and definitely to share. We asked about the coffee shop in the mornings and they open at 6:30 AM! This will be a great networking place during the week at any hour. Cannot wait to return in the morning. Definitely a great place for family and as I suggested for networking during the week. They have parking on the back adjacent to the building also. Izzi won’t disappoint!
